The powerhouse of all CPUs |
After recieving one of these a few days ago, i could not wait to get it into my PC and see how much it could do. Needless to say i was impressed, it boosted the power of my PC (Was 2Ghz P4) by almost double! The processor also uses intels new "Hyper-threading" technology, which means that the processor is able to process two different sets of instructions in one clock cycle, being able to shift as much data as two non hyper-threaded processors at 1.5Ghz. For what it costs, it is the best out there, but as it costs about £100 more than Intels 2.8Ghz version, you have to wonder if it is worth paying the extra £100 to get another 200Mhz. Also worth a look might be the AMD Athlon XP 3000+. Its the same price as Intels 2.6Ghz P4, but is (on paper) as fast as an Intel P4 at 3Ghz.
